France Park Activities
YEAR - ROUND ACTIVITIES
|
|
An 18 hole disc golf course is located in the northwest
corner of the park ; tees and baskets are clearly marked. Tournaments are
scheduled regularly. Discs can be borrowed at gatehouse for a $5.00
refundable deposit. |
 | Wildlife Observation
|
|
Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy a wide variety of fauna
and flora at France Park at either the Ken Bennett Wildlife Viewing
Building or our 40+ acres of prairie. Over 75 different species of birds (including
wild turkey and pileated woodpecker) have been counted in addition to
deer, beaver, raccoon, squirrel, muskrat, turtles and other reptiles. Bald
eagles have been spotted during spring and fall migrations. The
Ken Bennett Wildlife Viewing Building near the "upper triangle"
located off the beach road, (across from the Flory Shelter) is an enclosed
structure with one-way glass. Containing educational posters,
activities and exhibits, it overlooks the path of the old Erie Canal and
is an excellent place to observe denizens of the park. Open hours
vary, so ask at the gatehouse if you can't get in.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES
 | Guarded Swimming
|
|
The swimming beach is available at the Old Kenith Stone Quarry from
Memorial Day. Red Cross certified lifeguards are on duty from
10 am until 6 PM, weather permitting. Concession stand is available for food and drink
purchases and inner tube rentals. Absolutely NO
swimming when lifeguards are not on duty. Weather conditions and
availability of proper number of lifeguards may cause occasional closings
of the beach. Call the park before your visit to verify if the
swimming beach is open.
Clean
sandy beach, clear quarry water, magnificent limestone cliffs as a
backdrop. |
|

|
Pictured above: the beach patrons during a safety
